ABOUT US.

Stepping back in time, Tony’s father was MD of Blue Wing Honda, the importers for Honda motorcycles, and hence Tony met several Japanese people from Honda Japan (some of who remain friends to this day…) Tony was fortunate to have Japanese as an option at Papatoetoe High School, where he was also Head Boy in 1983. He followed this up with a degree in International Marketing and Japanese from the University of Waikato. After some time in Japan coaching tennis and teaching English, Tony returned to NZ, and was fortunate to receive a job at JTB (Japan Travel Bureau), primarily looking after the purchasing and planning for the company.

Following the economic downturn in Japan, Tony decided to branch out, and formed ‘Booties International Marketing’ in 1994, which is proudly privately New Zealand owned and operated.

We specialise in translations and marketing services for a wide range of industries, including tourism-related services.

Our unique feature is that we are a marketing agency that focuses on non-English speaking markets. Hence, we don’t just focus on the words when we translate, we focus on the wider ‘message’ that you are aiming to communicate to your customers.

Some of our clients include Tourism New Zealand, Icebreaker, Education NZ, New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, regional councils, Icebreaker, AIA, NZMP, Life Plus, and more. And some of the industries we’ve helped are tourism, advertising & publishing, health, food & beverage, manufacturing, insurance, finance, film and creative, and more.

We currently help clients in New Zealand, Australia, South Pacific, Japan, Europe, and the USA.

Here at BTM we like to look at life a little on the light side, so we asked each of our team members to choose a 'boot' that they feel best represents them and their personality!

“Back in the day, BTM was originally called Booties Translation & Marketing, named after our founder Tony Boot or Bootie as he is known by his mates in the industry.”
